The Setting:
King’s Cottage has been designated one of the Top 10 Most Romantic inns in North America. For a special weekend in 2013 King’s Cottage was transformed into the location of a murder mystery. Our elegant circa 1913 bed & breakfast was the stage for a high profile murder with our guests as the participants!
The Scene:
It is the 1920s when prohibition is in effect and gangsters rule during this murder mystery weekend where you could be a suspect, victim or sleuth! The American economy is booming. Employment is high, new inventions and mass production have improved people’s standard of living, and life, for many, is good.
| Don Wannabe is hosting a grand opening celebration for his new speakeasy The Four Deuces and you are invited to attend. The Four Deuces is a lavish joint serving booze and music in the front. In the back is the gambling hall and upstairs is a very high class and exclusive brothel. The cream and not so cream of society will be here. With gangsters, hit men, politicians, opera singers, molls and many other interesting guests in attendance there are sure to be a lot of big deals being made here tonight. |

The Roles:
Each guest who signs up for our murder mystery weekend will play a key role within the murder mystery. Once you have signed up, we will ask you specific questions that will allow you to play a role that best fits your personality.

The Plan:
We will request information about you that will help to assign you to your character. You will then receive information prior to the event that will detail your character, suggestions for costumes and pertinent information you will need for the weekend. There is no script to learn. You will decide how to accomplish your objectives. Then on Friday evening, each of you will receive a sealed envelope. This envelop will contain important information about each of the participants as the mystery evolves. You will also receive instructions on how to commit a murder if the need arises. Please use this option wisely. Only commit murder if it is your only option. You must have the means, the opportunity to do so and be sure you can get away with it! |

Our Murder Mystery weekend will extend inside and outside the doors of the King’s Cottage to bring you a weekend you will never forget. Here are a few of the details about your special weekend:

Your first evening you will have the time of your life as we begin our Murder Mystery weekend at Culturas restarant, some of the finest food in Lancaster County.

The Itinerary:
- Arrive Friday Between 3pm - 4:30pm:
Your beautiful room awaits you, but don’t get too comfortable yet, the Murder Mystery weekend is about to begin!

6:00pm - 9:00pm Dinner & Details:
It is time to enjoy a delicious dinner and officially meet the other murder mystery participants. This experience will take us to a private room within Culturas Restaurant. Here you will have an amazing multi-course tasting menu from one of Lancaster County’s finest restaurants. You will have the opportunity to choose, well in advance, from two selections per course. As the evening proceeds your hostess will review the rules of our murder mystery weekend. Be sure to keep your eyes open and wits about you as there will be clues that will help you obtain documents to assist you in accomplishing your character’s goals for the weekend. Once dinner has concluded you are free to enjoy the many night time activities Lancaster has to offer, or head back to enjoy one of the most romantic inns in North America.

Saturday Breakfast at the Inn 8:30 - 9:30am:
King’s Cottage is known around the country for romance and delicious food. A full gourmet breakfast will be served between 8:30 and 9:30am. Your breakfast will be tailored to accomodate any dietary restrictions or food allergies with advance notice.

Free Time to Explore Lancaster County:
Once you have finished breakfast it is time for you to have some play time around our beautiful county. Your innkeepers will be available to help plan your day. You can go and enjoy the many attractions Lancaster has to offer, or you may visit one of the services recommended below.
- Amish Country Buggy Rides:
Bundle up and take a breath taking buggy ride in the scencic countryside. Please ask your innkeeper for your discount coupon to our favorite buggy ride: Aaron & Jessica’s Buggy Rides offers group and private rides and will customize the tour and have a buggy just for you! No advance reservation required! And if there is enough snow, sleigh rides can be arranged!
- Ice Skating:
If you enjoy the outdoors and ice skating you are in for a real treat. Clipper Magazine located in Lancaster City is getting out the ice skates for the fifth season of the popular Ice Park at Clipper Magazine Stadium. The special cooling system will make it possible to skate on our 135’ x 80’ ice rink in temperatures up to 50 degrees. Last winter, over 25,000 people found all the winter fun RIGHT HERE IN LANCASTER. This winter, don’t miss out! The ice skating rink opens at 12:00pm on Saturday and prices are $7.00 for unlimited skating and only $3.00 to rent skates!
- Farmland Tours and More:
There are excellent tours of our beautiful Lancaster countryside. Advance reservations are not required. There are private tours, group tours and self guided tours. The Amish Farm and House do an excellent farmland tour and tours of their Amish house and farm. We highly recommend them!
- Discover the thriving arts scene and more in Historic Downtown Lancaster!
There is so much to see and do in the old city! Our country’s oldest continuously operating market, Lancaster Central Market is open every Saturday, year round, from 6 am to 2 pm. There are artists studios and galleries, unique artisan shops, the Red Rose Wine tasting Room and more! All are within a 3 block radius of the Central Market.
- Venture out 4 blocks north of Lancaster Central Market to Uptown Lancaster where you will find the Historic Block of 300 North Queen Street with all its vintage stores and cafes! You may want to come a day early just to take it all in!
- Lunch Possibilites Are Many
You can enjoy the local PA Dutch fare, dine in an elegant antique townhouse mansion or visit one of the local Irish pubs or eateries Lancaster has to offer. Your innkeepers will assist you with menus, maps and directions.

At 4:00 pm The Murder Mystery Shifts Into High Gear
Plan to return to the inn around 3 pm since it will be time to dress up for a fun night at King’s Cottage and a murder you will never forget.
Before dinner, we start the evening with appetizers, and to keep everything above board and legal, there will be sparkling cider and soft drinks. Of course, with prohibition in effect, feel free to BYOB (bring your own bootleg). After all, you are celebrating the grand opening of a speakeasy!
Saturday evening you will be pampered with a dinner catered by one of Lancaster’s top chefs and inspired by our murder mystery event. Please let us know if there are any special dietary restrictions at time of making your reservation.

Let The Games Proceed!
Prior to and during dinner the stage will be set for your murder mystery. Here are just a few details you may want to know ahead of time:
Each of you will have a sealed envelope that you will be opening later in the evening. In this envelope is a sheet that will list your secrets, things you may know about other people and also some things you will need to do during the course of the evening. Do not open your envelope until instructed to do so. You will be give some money to use however you wish to accomplish your goals. Bribery and extortion are encouraged!
The brochure you will receive instructs you on how you can commit murder in this game if the need arises. Please use this option wisely. Only commit murder if you feel it is your only option & you think you can get away with it. Serial killing is not allowed!

That evening you will attempt to solve the murder by any means at your disposal before the inspector reveals all!
9 am Sunday Morning Awards Breakfast:
As your romantic weekend concludes you are treated to another gourmet breakfast at King’s Cottage. At the end of breakfast, award certificates will be presented for the following:
- Super Sleuth Certificates goes to those who solve the murder.
- Wealthiest Player goes to the one with the most ’money’ at the end.
- Best Costume goes to the most creative costume.
- Best Actor goes to the person who plays their part the best.
The Package:
Prices will vary based on the specific room of your choice. Price for the entire weekend includes:
- Your beautiful room for 2 nights
- A role in the murder mystery
- Welcome coffee, tea and refreshments upon arrival Friday afternoon

The Commitment:
Book your weekend early as they will sell out. This weekend package makes a unique and wonderful Christmas or Valentine gift! A wait list will be maintained. Please call us at 717-397-1017. Payment is due in full at time of booking. Your participation is vital to the murder mystery weekend. Cancellations would seriously affect everyone involved since each participant plays a key role. Thus, there are no refunds and no exceptions to guarantee all roles are covered.
The Snow Dates:
In the event there is a major winter storm, the murder mystery weekend will be rescheduled to an alternate weekend. Please make sure you are able to reschedule to the designated weekend in March selected for your original date. It is not possible to switch weekends since roles are assigned in advance and we cannot reassign a differnt role since each character has secrets and objectives which only they must know. You must not even let your spouse or significant other know your secrets or it will spoil the fun for them.
